Following the Prophets: Food Storage

Sacrament Meeting Talk – April 22, 2007

** Food Storage **

Good Afternoon sisters & Brothers, My prayer is that the spirit will speak here today.

Let us begin with D&C 59: 16 – 20

“16 Verily I say, that inasmuch as ye do this, (”this” being repenting, fasting & praying – taken from the scriptures above)the fulness of the earth is yours, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and that which climbeth upon the trees and walketh upon the earth;17 Yea, and the herb, and the good things which come of the earth, whether for food or for raiment, or for houses, or for barns, or for orchards, or for gardens, or for vineyards;18 Yea, all things which come of the earth, in the season thereof, ( I had a sister tell me once that with the grocery stores around everything was in season year around) are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart;19 Yea, for food and the raiment, for taste and for smell, to strengthen the body and to enliven the soul.20 And it pleaseth God that he hath given all these things unto man; for unto this end were they made to be used, with judgment, not to excess, neither by extortion.” (Read the article)

Easter

Easter

Acts 12:4 is the only place in the Bible that the word “Easter” is used. In the foot notes it is mentioned that it could be changed to “Passover”. My husband and I had quite a discussion about this term. This feast of Easter came in the Spring Equinox / or about the time of Passover.

There was an interesting news segment about a Jewish family that was observing the Passover. Each item on the plate was symbolic and there was a prayer or song after each type of food that was to be eaten. The Jews, because of their traditions of their fathers, even those according to their faith, are still waiting. One of these traditions is to have an extra plate at the table and the door open, incase Elijah happens to stop in and want to share the Passover with the family.

What are these people waiting for? (Read the article)

A day in the life of Alex

I’m going to SLCC just taking math 1050 and thinking about taking more classes. O.K. actually, I have a job that starts at 3:30am and ends around 7:00am. I then go to school at 8:00am and leave around 10:00am. After I get home I have some time to, either do my homework (but I don’t), or sleep until noon when I go do yard work for ALS (Alex’s Lawn Service), then at four I go take pictures of sports teams and, depending on the location of where these pics are at, we end at sun down or 8:00pm. Giving me enough time to get home and fall to sleep, so I can start all over again. And that’s my week in a nutshell. Going back to ALS I just got a call from Drew Menlove (I think its the car Menlove) he says that he’s been talking around and wants to hire me. This sounds super great except that it’s just me working at ALS and I’m already really busy. SO I’m going to talk with him next week and we’ll see what we’ll see.
Speaking of school, I’ve also received many a message/slash/invitation/slash/application offers for Westminster College in the mail and I might sign on with them next…sign-on time, or year depending on if I can get my life in order.

Vicarious Life as It Is

If we are to live our lives vicariously through you, our kids, then we ought have a say in what you do with your lives!

In order to do this we need to know how you think, what you think, why you think, how you feel, what you feel, what are your motivations, where are you coming from? (Why are you here?  Where are you going?)…or at the very least WHAT you are doing with your life.

Indeed we may say that we follow the admonition of Connie, we need info, we desire info, we crave info, we wa(/)nt-would like info, if there is any info, that is virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy we  seek after it.

Thank you very much!!!

Love, daddie dearest

Terrorists and Drought

Faith involves doing all we can to bring about the things we hope and pray for. President Kimball asid: “in faith we plant the seed, and soon we see the miracle of the blossoming. Men have often misunderstod and have reversed the process.” He continued by explaining that many of us want to have health and strength without keeping the health laws. We want to have prosperity without paying our tithes. We want to be close to the Lord but don’t want to fast and pray. We want to have rain in due season and to have peace in the land without observing the Sabbath as a holy day and without keeping the other commandments of the Lord. (Faith Precedes the Miracle)

Leviticus 26:2-6

2)  Ye shall keep my sabaths, and reverence my sanctury: I am the Lord.

3)  If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;

4)  Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

5)  And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

6)  And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

What are the main concerns, as reported by the media today? Thats right! Terrorism and Drought. If we would only keep the Sabbath Day holy, these would no longer need to be a concern to us.

And the beauty of this message is that you don’t have to be LDS to keep the Sabbath Day holy. This is a mesaage that you can share with your friends, your neighbors, and virtually anyone you come in conact with.
