A motorcyclist was killed when a car turned into his path Wednesday night at a West Valley City intersection, police said.
Alex Soderborg, 23, was traveling east on 4100 South about 9:30 p.m. when an oncoming car driven by an 18-year-old male turned left onto 4000 West and collided with Soderborg in the intersection, West Valley City Police Capt. Tom McLachlan said.
Soderborg, of West Valley City, hit the driver’s side of the car and died at the scene. He suffered severe head and chest injuries even though he was wearing a full-face helmet, McLachlan said.
Charges are pending, McLachlan said.

I was talking to my mother on the phone this morning and she mentioned that the son of a friend of mine died last week in a motorcycle crash. Apparently he was wearing a full face helmet at the time, but received serious enough injuries to die at the scene. I’m curious if any of you knew the rider, Alex Soderborg.

When people that you don’t know die in motorcycle wrecks, it’s easier to wave it off than when a family friend dies. Now it has become more personal. My mother is once again worried about me riding a motorcycle, even though I’ve managed to survive more than 30 years of riding so far.

    Please ride carefully out there.
