SodySpokes

Sody Spokes, Sody Speaks, Sody Has Spoken.

A day in the life of Alex

I’m going to SLCC just taking math 1050 and thinking about taking more classes. O.K. actually, I have a job that starts at 3:30am and ends around 7:00am. I then go to school at 8:00am and leave around 10:00am. After I get home I have some time to, either do my homework (but I don’t), or sleep until noon when I go do yard work for ALS (Alex’s Lawn Service), then at four I go take pictures of sports teams and, depending on the location of where these pics are at, we end at sun down or 8:00pm. Giving me enough time to get home and fall to sleep, so I can start all over again. And that’s my week in a nutshell. Going back to ALS I just got a call from Drew Menlove (I think its the car Menlove) he says that he’s been talking around and wants to hire me. This sounds super great except that it’s just me working at ALS and I’m already really busy. SO I’m going to talk with him next week and we’ll see what we’ll see.
Speaking of school, I’ve also received many a message/slash/invitation/slash/application offers for Westminster College in the mail and I might sign on with them next…sign-on time, or year depending on if I can get my life in order.

Vicarious Life as It Is

If we are to live our lives vicariously through you, our kids, then we ought have a say in what you do with your lives!

In order to do this we need to know how you think, what you think, why you think, how you feel, what you feel, what are your motivations, where are you coming from? (Why are you here?  Where are you going?)…or at the very least WHAT you are doing with your life.

Indeed we may say that we follow the admonition of Connie, we need info, we desire info, we crave info, we wa(/)nt-would like info, if there is any info, that is virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy we  seek after it.

Thank you very much!!!

Love, daddie dearest

Jesus Christ

At this Easter Season our thoughts are turned towards our Savior, for Easter is a celebration of the risen Lord. But over the years His message of re-birth has been diluted, distorted, or lost altogether as commercialism has secularized even this holiday. And yet, only as we come to know Christ can His life affect ours as it was intended.

How do you get to know a person? What qualifies as knowing a person?

About

Welcome to SodySpokes, our family newsletter.

SodySpokes was originally intended to be merely a quarterly investment club forum, where we were to share financial information and insights, on topics ranging from savings and investments to spending and budgeting, which would help us to get/stay out of debt, and enjoy financial prosperity.

However, it has evolved into a more all-encompassing newsletter. (Check the Dollar Dollops archives for details).

The name “SodySpokes” was agreed upon after much collaboration and argument. Something along the lines of “Sody spokes” as “Sody speaks,” or “Sody has spoken.” Basically, the only reason that it’s named “SodySpokes” is because when I asked for alternative names NO ONE (with a few exceptions) volunteered any. And thus we see that, for lack of a better name, we are stuck with “SodySpokes.” (For more on the history of the “SodySpokes” name, please see the “SodySpokes” archive, Summer 2006)

Also, note the different sections in SodySpokes. There is “SodySpokes” which is for, what Dad likes to call, “Big News.” There is also a “Life As It Is” for the “Not-So Big News” …basically, what’s new in your life. Also, “The Iron Spoke” which is for more spiritual posts (i.e. Talks/Lessons for Church). “Dollar Dollops” is where we will share our financial information and insights. And lastly, there is “Uncategorized” which basically, is anything that doesn’t really fit in to any of the other categories. (Bear in mind that you can post an article in more than one section).

Furthermore, depending upon various articles that might spring up, one should note that other sections may be added.

And so begins the exciting family editorial of SodySpokes.

Money: Blessing or Burden?

President Ivan Holland, Anthem, Nevada Stake
Stake Conference August 27, 2006

The Lord never rewards righteousness with money!
The Lord does not reward eternal things with temporal (temporary) things.
Wealth and monetary gain are as much a test as a blessing.
If you think that monetary gain is a reward for your righteousness you’ll become prideful (pride cycle)
Jacob 2:18-19 The Lord will give us riches if we have the intent to do good and help others. If not, it will be to our condemnation!
An understanding of the Lord’s plan helps us put things into perspective in a way that the rest of the world cannot even fathom (imagine).
If we understand that this life is but for a moment and that we’ve been promised all of eternity, then we won’t get caught up in the mundane – and Christ will help us focus on what truly matters.

D&C 29:34-35 The Lord doesn’t give temporal commandments – only spiritual
The Lord wants us to succeed & receive exaltation
It is not necessary to achieve perfection in THIS life
This is NOT a competition.
We would not have any possibility of success without Jesus Christ & the Atonement
The Spirit and the Body are the Soul (D&C 88:15) …Duel nature, requires both.
