Lee Soderborg Obituary

Lee Soderborg
April 07, 1955 – June 23, 2020

Alvin Lee Soderborg returned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from heart failure, leaving behind a host of loving family and friends.

Lee was born April 7, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the fifth son of Alvin Charles and Afton Romney Soderborg. He graduated from Skyline High School in 1973, and then served the Lord in the Toronto, Canada Mission for two years. On October 18, 1980, Lee married the love of his life, Karen Kay Durham. They were blessed with six children; three boys, three girls, and all the boys were twins. Their children are Pamela, Alex, Brian, Olivia, Connie, and Cody.

Lee was self-employed for many years, fixing and selling appliances. In addition, he had a 30-year career fixing ice cream machines for Taylor Freezer. He also served in many different capacities as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite callings were home teacher and scout master. (You, too, can call him master). Lee loved to serve. If someone was moving, he was always there to help load the truck. When someone was sick, he arrived with a can of chicken soup. You could find him digging trenches, laying sod, or fixing appliances for friends in need. In 2009, Lee shaved his beard for the first time in 27 years to serve the Lord in the temple.

Lee is preceded in death by his son, Alex Soderborg, and his sister, Laurel Cundick. He is survived by his wife, Karen Soderborg, his siblings, Kathy (Martin) Vander Veur, Lynne (Ken) Dawson, (Robb Cundick), Mark (Paula) Soderborg, Gayle (Dan) Roberts, and Eric Soderborg. He is also survived by his children, Pamela Willis, Brian (Lara) Soderborg, Olivia (Russ) Kirkham, Connie Soderborg, and Cody Soderborg. In addition, ten loving grandchildren called him Grand-Daddie Dearest.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26, by invitation only. A public viewing will be held Thursday, June 25 at the Harvestland Ward meetinghouse (3120 W 4700 S, Taylorsville, UT 84119) from 6-8 pm. Please wear a mask and maintain social distancing at the viewing.

  8. As a teacher who taught at Granger High, I got to know 4 of the Soderborg children. If we can judge the commendable qualities, Christian values and parental qualifications by the actions and attitudes of the children, then I can testify to the amazing father/man who is we honor today. My heart is saddened by the loss/pain the Soderborg family is experiencing with Lees passing…their heartache goes without saying. However I also know because of the father and husband he was…the man of faith and the Christian example he set…the friendship he gave to neighbor or stranger….and the work ethic he modeled in teaching and guiding his family….he did not leave them lost, without a guiding plan for their future. Lee taught his family to support and love each other; to honor, protect and stay close to their mother; and to continue to look to their faith for love and guidance when life is both good and difficult….Lee May be physically gone for a time, but his spiritual presence can be seen, felt and heard in his family and the love they share. God Bless you all during this time of loss. Your Dad will always hear you and guide your heart.
